No story (of a God or a cat or anything else) can be proven to be factual. Whether what we see, hear or read is factual is always a process of belief. Just ask any magician!
In mathematics we prove a theorem by setting up a series of logical steps which makes any other conclusion impossible. It is then not a matter of belief.
In science, we try to falsify propositions, and eventually (almost reluctantly) accept that the hypothesis is true, as far as we can tell with current technology. No belief needed there either.
But religion is not science or mathematics and truth then is a subjective thing. What is true for you need not be true for me. So I can accept that the account of the creation of the universe in Genesis is true without any conflict with my acceptance of the theory of evolution. They are different sorts of truth, if you like, one of which relates to religious faith and one to scientific enquiry.
