From Rev. Gordon Moyes’ Blog:
How Fred does deals
Last Saturday night at the State CDP Convention, in a long and tense speech following the keynote address by myself, Fred Nile rejected my call to name the date of his resignation from Parliament giving an unusual reason. I had said that both Fred and I were too old for Parliament and we should be making way for a younger generation. I offered to resign to allow a younger person entry into Parliament. Obviously this was greeted enthusiastically by the 36 members of the Young CDP present. They caught the vision of how we could reinvigorate our party.
But Fred responded angrily (he responds angrily whenever his age is mentioned) stating tensely that younger members of Parliament would not survive. Strange as every other member of State and Federal Parliament is younger than he is. Fred proclaims constantly that he is the “Father of the Parliament”, but he is also old enough to be the father of the Premier, the Prime Minister, the leader of the Opposition, every other premier and leader of the opposition in every other State.
Fred went on to say, as recorded on a cell phone, that it has taken him 27 years to become effective in Parliament. He said, “It has taken me 27 years to learn how to do deals with the Labor Party Government. It has taken me 27 years to learn how to do deals with the opposition.” The reason why I was startled with this statement is that Rev Fred Nile in his President’s Email., No 8 July 2008 wrote after quoting Romans 13:1-4): “I must respect the NSW ALP Government as “divinely constituted” and that to rebel against the Government “is resisting God’s appointment”. I know there are Christians who would reject this interpretation and application of God’s Word, but I take God’s Word seriously.
