The Spiritual Masters teach us that God is known in two main ways – via mystery, and obligation. Stay with me: obligation is doing what is good and right and just, even to one’s disadvantage. The genius of the Hebrew prophets and Jesus lay in their emphasizing that the second is no less important than the first: ie. ‘faith’ without ‘works’ may be almost blasphemous. Live with that thought today!
