In Good Loving, Great Sex Dr Rosie King describes a state she calls ‘limerance’ – that heady period of new ‘love’*** when both parties are besotted and can’t get enough of each other. In normal circumstances this lasts for about six to 18 months. However, research has shown that it can be extended if there’s physical separation – or even by opposition to the relationship. (Which is sometimes why, when parents, siblings etc. don’t approve of a relationship, the infatuation is extended).
