In his tongue-in-cheek book, The 77 Habits of Highly Ineffective Christians, forwarded by Adrian Plass, author Chris Fabey, lists Habit 15 as living an unexamined life. ¢â‚¬ËœYou will enter the new sphere of ineffectiveness if you live life unexamined. For maximum effect, stop all analysis of your relationship with your Creator. This can be achieved in a number of ways.
First keep yourself so busy you don ¢â‚¬â„¢t have time to think about life ¢â‚¬â„¢s purpose… and what legacy you will leave behind. Shut out all thoughts of the brevity of life. If anyone talks about death, change the subject to more ¢â‚¬Ëœpositive ¢â‚¬â„¢ things. Never discuss the afterlife. Live in the moment, not eternity.
The greatest companion of a busy life is a crowded life. Crowd it with friendly chatter and talk about the weather and how it seems much cooler/warmer this year than last. Crowd your life with scheduled events that keep you moving from one to the other until you are living on automatic… (Chris Fabry, The 77 Habits of Highly Ineffective Christians, Leicester:CrossWay Books 1997, 30)
