OUR FATHER’S WORLD: how well do you know it?

For your church’s/group’s/family’s next ‘trivia’ night. (But these are not trivial…)

According to Operation World (Jason Mandryk, WEC 2010, 978 pp.) there are 14 countries beginning with ‘A’. Here they are, with a significant/interesting fact about 12 of them:

Afghanistan: 48,000 mosques, not a single Christian church building; population 30 million; wars in the last 30 years have killed 1 million, with 4 million children orphaned, leaving 1 million landmines/unexploded ordinances; and 1 million drug users.

Albania  has 330 Orthodox, 82 Jehovah’s Witness (JW), 8 Baptist congregations.

Algeria: Unemployed Christians from a Muslim background – 90%

American Samoa – second largest Christian group – Mormons

Andorra -  90% Catholic. Next – Assemblies of God (AOG)

Angola12 million Catholics. Next – Assemblies of God (AOG) 2 million. Victims of land-mines – 1/350 of the population

,8 (Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda)

Argentina – one million (out of 40 million) are illegal immigrants. Catholics – 6250 congregations; next – Christian Brethren 2114 congregations

Armenia – Literacy 99.4%; 11,300 JWs, 3,500 Baptists; population 3 million; diaspora – 8 million; 1915-17 genocide killed 1.5 million

Aruba – 44 Catholic congregations. Next – JWs 12 congregations

Australia – Largest Christian groups – Catholics, then Anglicans, then Pentecostal/charismatic groups combined. There are 83,000 Mormons, 66,000 JWs, 61,000 Baptists. 32 full-time Christian FM stations

Austria – Pentecostal churches doubled 2000 – 2010; more JWs than Evangelicals
