Read: Psalm 8
When I consider Your heavens,
…what is man that You are
mindful of him? -Ps. 8:3-4
Sometimes an enemy of God’s truth becomes a truth- teller withoutintending to be.
Celsus, a 2nd-century Roman philosopher, sought to discreditbiblical faith. He wrote in his book True Discourse, "The root ofChristianity is its excessive valuation of the human soul, and theabsurd idea that God takes an interest in man."
Even though Celsus opposed Christianity, he was telling the truth! It does seem absurd to a God-denier that the Almighty Creator would takesuch a deep personal interest in mere mortals. Yet that is the veryheart of the gospel. The Bible reveals that we are made in the image ofGod (Gen. 1:26). And tied to every one of us is the price-tag ofCalvary.
So when we look at it through Christ’s eyes, we see that He valuesus even though we are sinners. Why else would the Savior die for us? There is no room for human pride here – every bit of our worth comesfrom God. Yet Scripture assures us that God cares for you, me, and allthe earth’s billions of people (Lk. 12:6-7); Jn. 3:16).
Paul wrote in Galatians 2:20, "Christ…loved me and gaveHimself for me." His immeasurable sacrifice tells us that we areof great worth! Vernon C. Grounds
His hands and feet and heart, all three
Were pierced for me onCalvary,
And here and now, to Him I bring
My hands, feet, heart,an offering. -Allen
THE DEATH OF CHRIST IS THE MEASURE
OF GOD’S LOVE FOR YOU.
