[1] REMEMBER THE DAY
“Behold,” [said God], “now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2, RSV).
Remember the day I borrowed your brand new car and I dented it? I thought you’d kill me, but you didn’t. And remember the time I dragged you to the beach, and you said it would rain, and it did? I thought you’d say, “I told you so.” But you didn’t. Do you remember the time I flirted with all the guys to make you jealous, and you were? I thought you’d leave me, but you didn’t. Do you remember the time I spilled strawberry pie all over you car rug? I thought you’d hit me, but you didn’t. And remember the time I forgot to tell you the dance was formal and you showed up in jeans? I thought you’d drop me, but you didn’t. Yes, there were lots of things you didn’t do. But you put up with me, and you loved me, and you protected me. There were lots of things I wanted to make up to you when you returned from Viet Nam … But you didn’t.
This is an anonymous poem I read several years ago in Leo Buscaglia’s book, Living, Loving, and Learning.
It’s a timely reminder that none of us have any guarantee of tomorrow. Today is the only day we ever have. Whatever we need to do today that will have permanent results, may we, by the grace of God, do it.
Above all else, whatever you do, remember that as God said, “Today is the day of salvation.” So be certain your life is right with God and that you are sure you are a Christian. To do this click on the link at [2]. Today!
Suggested prayer: “Dear God, please help me each day to keep my priorities in order … do what I can and need to do and not worry and fret about the unimportant things. Most of all help me to be sure that my life is right with you. Gratefully in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
