Queen Elizabeth was crowned queen of England in 1953. Prior to her coronation, she sent out invitations to her friends and various dignitaries which read like this:
“We greet you well. Whereas we have appointed the second day of June 1953 for the solemnity of our coronation, these are therefore to will and to command, all excuses set apart, that you make your personal attendance upon us, at the time above mentioned, there to do and to perform such services as shall be required of you.”
A queen does not request attendance — she commands it! Did you notice that phrase in the middle of the invitation: “all excuses set apart”? When a king or queen expresses their will and issues a command, subjects are to respond without hesitation or excuses.
How much greater is our responsibility to Jesus Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords? Christ has expressed his will and issued his commands, and all of our excuses must be “set apart”.
“A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, ‘Come, for all things are now ready.’ But they all with one accord began to make excuses.” (Luke 14:16-18).
Don’t make any excuses today. Submit willingly to the King.
Have a great day!
