Christians dwindling at Holy Land Easter services
Jerusalem (ENI). A diminished flock of local Christians and only a handful of pilgrims from abroad attended this year’s Holy Land Easter services at which Jesus’ resurrection from the dead was celebrated. Church leaders said many local Christians are fleeing the region and few of their foreign counterparts have been travelling to Jerusalem since the start of the Israeli-Palestinian clashes in September 2000. Despite church condemnation, Philippines crucifixions go ahead
Manila (ENI). At Easter, a time when Christ’s crucifixion is recalled by Christians throughout the world, churches in the Philippines cautioned against present-day re-enactment’s of crucifixion – a warning that, however, went unheeded. Over the Easter weekend, Filipinos flocked to San Pedro Cutud, a farming village 70 kilometres north of the capital in the province of Pampanga where 11 people were nailed on wooden crosses in a re-enactment of the crucifixion of Jesus about 2000 years ago.
