What Would You Sing?

Clergy/Leaders’ Mail-list R-025 [Repeat of CLM-3-136: 04 Aug 2003]

We are repeating this as a last minute opportunity for those who meant to respond but didn’t get around to it, or who missed the original posting.

WHAT WOULD YOU SING? (Devotional)

by Lachlan Dunjey

I heard about a lady who collapsed near the edge of the road, who struggled for some hours to drag herself to the edge, while many drove by. Eventually a young lady stopped, assisting her off the road and calling for help.

The ill person apparently died of hypothermia. Maybe she had had a stroke from which she may also have died, but the immediate preventable cause of death was hypothermia. A sad story of failure of responsibility to our neighbour where were all the Good Samaritans? Had no one actually even called the police?

But there is another aspect to the story. The young lady who stopped not only called for help but she held the lady, talked to her, prayed with her, kissed her, and also sang to her.

QUESTION: What would you have sung?

[Assume that she is unable to cogently respond, and you do not know whether or not she might be a Christian. We suggest that you do not analyse your response as to what you might have sung, but just go with your gut answer.

Please e-mail Lachlan at his address below no later than Monday 18 August 2003 only 1 or 2 songs please and he will compile the results. (If you prefer just to ‘REPLY’ to CLM with your response, we will forward it to Lachlan.) Obviously you could do your own survey amongst your friends or church fellowship.]
