G’day all.
Rowland Croucher < quotes:
“[The] feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is
about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages
women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice
witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.”
[Fundraising letter from Pat Robertson that was an in-
kind contribution to the Iowa Committee to Stop ERA,
as reported in The Washington Post, August 23, 1993]
Where do they dig these politicians up?
One comment which may or may not result in meaningful discussion…
Saying “I am a feminist” is very similar to saying “I am religious”.
Feminism comes in many shapes and forms and encompasses many beliefs.
For example, consider the following statements, all from women who
consider themselves feminists:
A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.
— Gloria Steinem
The orthodox feminists are so carried away with victimology,
with a rhetoric of male-bashing that it’s full of female
chauvinists, if you will. Also, women are quite eager to
censor, to silence. And what concerns me most as a philosopher
is it’s become very anti-intellectual, and I think it poses a
serious risk to young women in the universities. Women’s
studies classes are increasingly a kind of initiation into the
most radical wing, the most intolerant wing, of the feminist
movement.
— Christina Sommers
The extensive problem of teenage pregnancy cannot and will not
be solved by punitive laws that make desperate teenagers even
more desperate. Force childbirth and force family that make
desperate teenagers even more desperate. Force childbirth and
force family communication will only exacerbate an already
difficult prblem, not solve it. Children raising children is
as cruel a response as it is illogical.
— National Organization for Women pamphlet
The hostile woman so familiar in today’s world is at war not
only with you but with herself. She is fighting the same inner
insecurities and fear as you are. Please join with her in the
struggle for identity and inner security that is neither male
nor female, but poignantly human. The answer is not to be found
in adversarial relationships, but in a joined search for
significance. You will both recognize a genuine resolution to
this human dilemma when your maleness and her femaleness evolve
into complementary and harmonious relationships.
— Elaine Stedman
The point is that there is no “feminist agenda” any more than there is
a “religious agenda”. Feminists argue amongst themselves and nobody
knows what the right definition of “feminist” is.
Perhaps self-ascription is the best solution here too…

Thought for the week:
Wherever God erects a house of prayer,
The Devil always builds a chapel there;
And ’twill be found, upon examination,
The latter has the largest congregation.
— Daniel Defoe (c. 1661-1731)
