Received from a netfriend:
Hi,
I received a book alert and always do a little checking before forwarding emails to others. There are so many urban legends that it’s really important to verify facts first, so I checked with Dr. Dobson’s website http://family.org ……here’s what the response to the question about the Book Alerts:
Dr. Dobson has not sent out any e-mail regarding the book Conversations with God by Donald Walsch. He does, however, have concerns about the New Age philosophies and heresies about God found in Mr. Walsch’s writings. Most recently, Dr. Dobson has expressed strong feelings regarding the book Conversations with God for Teens, which Scholastic, Inc. marketed to unsuspecting students at Christian schools and their parents in 2002. The disturbing content includes Walsch writing as “God” and addressing teens’ questions with relativistic answers. He states, for example, that “I do not forgive because there is nothing to forgive” and “You are the measure of right and wrong and the only measure is whether it’s good for you, whether it works for you.” Statements like these directly contradict God’s true words in the Bible, and Dr. Dobson was deeply troubled that this New Age book was introduced to Christian schools in an “Inspiring Words” catalog.
To ensure that his audience knew what to expect from this marketing ploy, Dr. Dobson taped a broadcast which included information about Scholastic, Inc. and Conversations with God for Teens. The broadcast cassette, titled “Pulling Kids from Public Schools” (CT464) is available for a suggested donation of $7.00 in our online Resource Center. Again, the e-mail message you may have seen did not originate from Focus on the Family, but represents someone else’s synopsis of Dr. Dobson’s comments.
It may interest you to know that Scholastic, Inc. has stated they will no longer distribute Conversations with God for Teens to Christian schools and has admitted it was inappropriate for them to have done so in the first place. Unfortunately, Scholastic is still open to distributing Walsch’s writings and similar books in other venues.
Your website was passed on to me by one of our church members and I thought I would pass this information on to you as it’s the same Urban Legend Book Alert I received.
Only by His grace,
And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ.~ Philippians 1:9-10
