Job Interviews

Reaching the end of a job interview, the human resources person asked the hot-shot young engineer, fresh out of MIT, “And what starting salary were you looking for?”

The engineer coolly said, “In the neighborhood of $125,000 a year, depending on the benefits package.”

The interviewer said, “Well, what would you say to a package of 5 weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every 2 years – for starters, say, a red Corvette?”

The engineer tried to control his excitement, but sat straight up and said, “Wow! Are you kidding?”

“Yeah,” the interviewer shrugged, “But you started it.”

SeanR sends today’s bonus joke:

An Irishman goes for a job on a building site as an odd-job man. The foreman asks him what he can do.

“Anything.”

So the foreman asks him, “Can you make tea?”

“Yes, I can make great tea.”

Then the foreman asks, “Can you drive a forklift?”

“Why? How big is the teapot?”

Lastly, Vicky sends today’s double-bonus joke:

A wealthy Jewish guy living in England buys a fabulous home with over 50 rooms. He brings in a local workman to decorate the place. When the job is finished the Jewish guy is delighted, but realizes that he’s forgotten something – to put mezuzahs on the doors. He goes out and buys 50 mezuzahs and asks the decorator to place them on the right hand side of each door apart from bathrooms and kitchens. He’s really worried that the decorator will chip the paintwork or won’t put them up correctly; however, when he comes back a few hours later the job has been carried out to his entire satisfaction.

He’s so pleased that he gives the decorator a bonus. As the decorator is walking out of the door, he says to the Jewish guy: “Glad you’re happy with the job, mate. By the way, I took out all the guarantees that were in the little boxes and left them on the table for you.”

Ziggy’s Tip o’ the day:

Doing a job correctly the first time gets the job done. Doing the job incorrectly fifty times gets you job security.
