8c A Week To Cancel The Poorest Countries’ Debts

[September 1999]

Cancelling the debts of the world’s 52 poorest countries would cost taxpayers in the
West a maximum of eight US cents a week for the next 20 years [according to Jubilee 2000].

The campaign group is to release figures showing that the real cost of providing a
fresh start for poor nations is only one-third of the book value of the debts.
