A Netfriend asked:
After years of finishing worship with a 3-fold amen, someone has suggested we conclude worship singing “Now Unto Him”. I’ve got to say that the tune for this song reminds me of a song sung in a German beer hall at the ened of the night which serves to put those not already drunk, into a state of sleep. Weary, weary, weary.
What do others do at the end of worship? Anything inspiring and uplifting to send people out to be the people of God?
To which another replied:
I hear your woes and concerns. Put me to sleep for years as I was growing up having to sing it at church – although the sleep was sometimes mixed with relief at church being over (as a 10 year old!).
When I was at Terrigal UC, we sang a “contemporary” version of Now Unto Him – Someone had gotten it from the Katoomba Convention. Can’t remember who wrote it, but Ken Day could sort you out in this regard.
Also, there is a cool Matt Redman song – “Fill Us Up and Send Us Out” – that I have used and I know others have as a benediction style song. It’s on Matt’s first album “Passion For Your Name”. Should be able to find it at most Christian book stores – it’ll be a bargain and a great album to boot.
