In this post I am using information supplied by
Glenn Morton. Glenn is generally happy to discuss
this matter with those interested; his email
address is on his web pages. The URL for the
relevant page is http://www.flash.net/~mortongr/geo.htm

The entire geologic column is found in quite a
number of places.

By the entire geologic column, I mean all twelve
of the major geologic periods, set down in the
appropriate order. Here is a list of such locations,
taken from Glenn Morton’s web page.

The Ghadames Basin in Libya
The Beni Mellal Basin in Morrocco
The Tunisian Basin in Tunisia
The Oman Interior Basin in Oman
The Western Desert Basin in Egypt
The Adana Basin in Turkey
The Iskenderun Basin in Turkey
The Moesian Platform in Bulgaria
The Carpathian Basin in Poland
The Baltic Basin in the USSR
The Yeniseiy-Khatanga Basin in the USSR
The Farah Basin in Afghanistan
The Helmand Basin in Afghanistan
The Yazd-Kerman-Tabas Basin in Iran
The Manhai-Subei Basin in China
The Jiuxi Basin China
The Tung t’in - Yuan Shui Basin China
The Tarim Basin China
The Szechwan Basin China
The Yukon-Porcupine Province Alaska
The Williston Basin in North Dakota
The Tampico Embayment Mexico
The Bogata Basin Colombia

This is in contrast to the following remarks of
Morris and Paker:

“Now the geologic column is an idea, not an
actual series of rock layers. Nowhere do we find the
complete sequence. Even the walls of the Grand Canyon
included only five of the twelve major systems (one,
five, six and seven, with small portions here and there
of the fourth system, the Devonian.”

[Morris, H M. and Parker, G. 1987. What is Creation
Science? p163]

Actually, all twelve of the major systems are found in
many locations, in the correct order.

Glenn Morton is an evangelical Christian. I certainly
do not endorse all his ideas, though I often find them
challenging. Glenn does a lot of work in this area,
and has a unique perspective into the issues. He used
to be a very active young Earth Creationist, writing
regularly for the Creation Research Society; and ghost
writer for the evolution section of one of Josh
McDowell’s books. In the meantime, his professional
work in the oil industry involved analysis of seismic
data, which lead to a crisis as he realised that what he
was being taught by creationists was not consistent with
his data. He underwent a long crisis, to the point of
almost becoming an atheist. Check out his web page. It
is most interesting.

Best wishes-Chris Ho-Stuart
