In an interesting article in last Sunday’s Melbourne’s Sunday Herald Sun (‘Why all women should feel betrayed’ 7/07/02) the founding editor, Tracey Linguey, argued that our women politicians (she cited Bronwyn Bishop, Carmen Lawrence, and of course Cheryl Kernot) have let the side down.
===>>> Final paragraph: ‘As a woman, I feel betrayed and I worry we will never be able to convince men we are far superior as organisers and leaders, that we’re ready to take charge.’
I just proof-read that twice to make sure I got it right.
Now, please know, that as a leader-in-the-Australian-church, I’ve been at the forefront of stirring for women and men to be given ministry/leadership roles commensurate with their gifts and not their gender… Jan and I were the first Baptist ‘ordained’ clergy-couple in this country. See for example http://jmm.org.au/articles/8195.htm
However, that paragraph worries me. Did you read what I read?
Shalom!
