The Lord’s Supper, not the Sermon on the Mount, is the centrepiece of the Gospel story. And throughout the Gospels, we are shown a Jesus who asks questions. He had no desire, it seems, to become a great instructor and convincer. He was not in the convincing business, he was in the “taking up, giving thanks, breaking and giving” business. His goal seems to have been to present people with himself and present them with opportunities to choose — perhaps even to FORCE people to choose. In this he was incredibly successful.
