Elisabeth Sch ¼ssler Fiorenza is renowned for her pioneering work in biblical interpretation and feminist theology. Her teaching and research focuses on questions of biblical and theological epistemology, hermeneutics, rhetoric, and the politics of interpretation, as well as on issues of theological education, radical equality, and democracy.
She is a co-founder and editor of the Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion and a co-editor of Concilium. She was elected the first woman president of the Society of Biblical Literature and has served on the editorial boards of major biblical journals and societies. In 2001, she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Her published work includes In Memory of Her (translated in 12 languages); Bread Not Stone; But She Said; Discipleship of Equals; Revelation: Vision of a Just World; The Power of Naming; Jesus: Miriam’s Child; Sharing Her Word; and Jesus and the Politics of Interpretation. Her newest book, Wisdom Ways: Introducing Feminist Biblical Interpretation, was published in November 2001. She is currently Krister Stendahl Professor of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School.
