The most famous prayer of the Christian faith — “Our Father, who art in heaven” — has been translated into the language of the cellphone text message. In a competition run by Ship of Fools last month, the winning entry begins, , ur spshl,” and continues, “4giv r sins”.

The competition generated national press coverage in the UK, with the Times and four tabloid newspapers running substantial stories.
