Dear Shipmates
Last summer, Ship of Fools ran a competition for rewriting the Lord’s Prayer as a cellphone text message, using just 160 characters or less. The winning entry, which was featured in press stories around the world, was:
,ur spshl. we want wot u want &urth2b like hvn. giv us food&4giv r sins
lyk we 4giv uvaz. don’t test us!save us! bcos we kno ur boss, ur tuf&ur cool
4 eva!ok?
This month, we’re running a new texting competition — and we’d like to invite YOU to send in your favourite Bible verses or passages in text message form. You might like to choose a passage such as Psalm 23, the Beatitudes or even the 10 Commandments… or you could have a go at single verses such as John 3:16 or less well-known extracts from the Good Book.
The best entries will be published in a Ship of Fools book (our first!) called
“”, due out this summer. If one of your text messages is published,
you’ll receive a free copy of the book. If three or more of your messages are
used, we’ll add a £10 gift voucher so you can go shopping on Amazon. And the
most inventive message of all wins a £30 gift voucher.
Just a few simple rules of the competition…
* a maximum of 160 characters per txt msg * we’re looking for inventive abbreviations (“4give”, “2gether”) * you can send as many entries as you like * all entries must be sent by Friday 5th April 2002
If you’d like to take part, simply reply to this email with your Bible txt msgs. Or visit the competition online at Ship of Fools at this address…
