It seems that the Europeans are taking action to ensure that the night sky is protected as far as environmental heritage goes:
On Wednesday 12 March 2003 at 15:55 local time the Italian Parliament approved in Commission for Foreign Affairs a resolution which “commits the Italian government” of the premier Silvio Berlusconi “to promote at UNESCO the night sky as heritage of humanity, to act in any international seat, in particular during the Italian presidency of the European Union, in order that the night sky be declared a considered an environmental heritage to be protected, with the aim to allow to the present and future generations the possibility to continue to know, study and admire the starred sky and its phenomena”.
(This is as translated from Italian by PIERANTONIO CINZANO.)
I wonder what it would take to see the same level of environmental consciousness in Australia? In the Church?
